Fill: Character Is Smarter Than People Think IV (Original Fiction – Woofwoofverse)

You’re getting tired of everyone else enabling it.
But what are you supposed to do? Appeal to your section lead? Ezi’s just as bad as the others, and you can’t afford trouble right now.
“Do you know what that means?” he asks you, and it’s innocent, except you’ve heard him speak when he’s actually innocent and he sounds like a whiny brat.
Neither of your forks make a noise, but you’re a Listener, and that means you feel their spike of delight.
But you are Divinely-Steadfast, and you refuse to be shaken to name-sickness by childishness.
“Yes, Consort, I do.”
He shrugs, goes back to staring out the shaded window—he is going to ruin his eyes and then you’ll all be in trouble, especially you. Your Goddess doesn’t like Her things broken unless it’s by Her. “You just never know what they’re teaching you in those lower-cavern creches.”
“You haven’t been to my cavern, Consort. I doubt you know what they teach.”
“Well,” he says, with that air to him he gets before he says something truly nasty. You’d steel yourself, but you know what it’s going to be, and again: you’re tired. “I know they never taught you how to make a proper ‘ph’ sound. Can’t even say your own name right.”
Your face doesn’t burn, partially because that’s not really something dwellers do in the first place, but also because you knew it was coming. Behind you, your subordinates—and they hate being subordinate to you, hundreds of years their junior—look at each other, but you all know you’re not going to hurt him. Your Goddess doesn’t like Her things broken unless it’s by Her.
Instead, you say, “You need to find some better material. This is getting boring.”
